Plan for Safety This Super Bowl Sunday
February 2nd, 2018 by Brent de la Paz
Well the Big Game of the year is officially upon us and while this particular Sunday is a time for gathering with family and friends to watch one of the largest sporting events of the year, safety and precaution are more important than ever. Historically the day is a time to celebrate, enjoy memorable commercials and watch an exciting football game. But you should know that the day of the big game is also one of the largest days for arrests for drunk drivers after the occasion.
Because of this, I want everyone to commit to getting home safely after the game this year. Whether you are hosting a party, going to a party, or viewing at a sports bar, planning ahead for a safe ride home is one of the best decisions you can make that day. Sure, everyone likes to enjoy a few drinks every now and then, but a few drinks is all it takes to put yourself in a difficult situation if confronted with police.
So to make things simple, here are two ways you can plan ahead for a safe ride home after the big game.
1. Commit to being a designated driver
Sure, you may not get to engage in the good times associated with social drinking by committing yourself to being a designated driver, but at least you stay sober and can help others get home safely. While they may or may not recognize the huge favor you are doing for them at the time, hopefully they do later. But at the end of the day, you can go to bed knowing you kept your friends or family members safe, which matters much more than a good time that is short lived.
2. Use a ride share option such as Uber or Lyft
While paying for a ride home may seem like a nuisance at first, there is no fee that could ever amount to the cost of an arrest for DWI. So do yourself a favor. If you plan on drinking and have no designated driver, DO use a ride share option. For a few bucks, you can rest assured that you have a safe and sober ride home for yourself and others. And here’s a little tip – if you think that you will be too inebriated to remember to request an Uber or Lyft later, DO schedule it to pick you up in advance. You’ll be glad you did.
Remember, the key to safety is planning ahead. Never drink and drive. But if you find yourself in a situation you never expected, we are here to help. Now let’s watch some football!
