Celebrate Safely During Fiesta 2018

One of our favorite events of the year has finally arrived in Fiesta 2018, and that means a fun and lively celebration is in order! While it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the Fiesta season, it is important to keep in mind that your safety and the safety of those around you should always come first. Getting arrested can cause a wave of problems, so make a plan now to ensure you and your friends will get home safely.

There were 270 DWI arrests during last year’s celebration alone – and police aren’t planning on slowing down in 2018. During your Fiesta celebration, make sure you’re not the one to contribute to those DWI numbers. In a quote, SAPD spokesperson Sandra Pickell said, “Don’t be surprised if the number goes up because we are getting more creative as to how we’re going about those arrests.”

Here are a few safe alternatives to consider during Fiesta 2018:

  • Select someone from your group to be the designated driver, or volunteer yourself
  • Contact a friend or family member to give you a ride
  • Request an Uber or Lyft right from your cell phone
  • Request a taxi
  • Take the VIA VIVA route (There are routes for many of the larger events.)

Viva Fiesta San Antonio!

When it comes down to it, Fiesta is a time for fun and celebration. And while I always discourage drinking and driving by suggesting to plan ahead, I understand that it can be easier said than done. Peer pressure or other unforeseen circumstances can sometimes place you in a difficult situation (such as drinking and driving when you had no intention to do so). Should you find yourself entangled with the law, be sure to contact me immediately. A DWI can have lasting impacts and can be the start of your criminal record, but know that there is help available in the event you are facing one. Remember – celebrate responsibly and plan a safe ride home!
